The past few days have felt like routine. It's starting to feel more and more normal, to wake up every morning way earlier than my body wants me to, stumble into the shower, walk to the station with Katelyn, get on train and stare at feet, go to work and sit on the computer for hours, walk to sandwich shop, sit at computer for more hours, back on train staring at feet, home. But since I am a creature of habit (credit: Mom), I am fine with routine.
Last night after work, I watched an episode of Gilmore Girls (haha some things I will never change), ate pizza, and then we went to this place called The Big Chill House. It was quite busy with football [soccer] match spectators, always fun. We enjoyed some fresh, fruit-packed sangria on a warm evening. This place apparently has its own music festival in August, it seems like quite the scene. Oh speaking of the world cup, yesterday at work they turned the ground floor cafe into a party - I swear Imogen (the other intern) and I were the only people who weren't down there watching. The cafe also had - get this - a free open bar.
What?!? Free alcohol at work? At 2:45pm??
Ooohhh British work ethic. Much healthier than the American approach. So anyway, we also got to leave a half hour early, which helped us beat the rush hour train craziness. Imogen works across from me. It's been really nice to have someone to chat with this week. She takes a train home from my station by Nido, so we rode the tube together yesterday. She's really nice. She's familiar with parts of Michigan too, so I got to talk about home with her.
Mom and Melanie - I'm trying the dress-and-leggings look today. I feel totally British. Maybe shorts over tights tomorrow?? My favorite thing about London so far is that there's always someone you pass who is having a worse hair day than you because everyone here lives in the world of Crazyhair. Eccentric was the perfect word to describe British style!
Tonight the girls and I are going down to Picadilly to find something to do (Katie, come with us!!). Tomorrow is my free day; I am looking forward to visiting Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral. We also want to go back to the theatre tomorrow, hopefully to see We Will Rock You. Check back soon for photos!
